New Moon in Capricorn 18/19 January 2026

The first New Moon of 2026 will happen on January 18, 2026, at 7:51 pm (UTC) at 4 degrees 30 minutes Capricorn. Nakshatra is Uttara Ashadha, and Navamsha is Aquarius.

In Jyotish, Mars is called Mangala, meaning ‘auspicious’. It is auspicious because it gives us courage. It takes courage to change ourselves, as it is much easier to resist change and maintain the status quo.

However, Mars is also categorised as a malefic planet. It is malefic because its power can be easily misused, which can lead to great harm. Mars also rules anger, excessive energy, aggression, and violence. Using it incorrectly can cause issues for both.

A strong Mars is located close to this new moon. We may feel anger easily. However, rather than venting or trying to suppress our anger, this is a great new moon to think about how to harness and transcend it, and what kind of energy we need to change.

If we are unsure about what changes to make, let us declare our intention to improve ourselves, which will lead toward greater peace of mind. We may be given a new direction, and Mars will surely give us the courage we need. Om Shanti.
