The last New Moon of 2024 happens at 15°31 Sagittarius at 10:27 pm UTC on 30 December. The Nakshatra is Purva Ashada and Navamsha is Leo.
In many places, the last day of the year is 31 December, as determined by the Gregorian calendar, in use since the 16th century. But in terms of the lunar cycle, it is a new moon, and it marks the start of the various things as it is the darkest day of the month and the light will grow afterwards. I guess some people won’t feel comfortable if I say the New Year’s Eve is a start, but maybe it is because it goes against a certain social rule. In Japan, it is customary to do a big house cleaning at the end of the year. But some people may be frustrated that they didn’t manage to do it properly. We follow a certain social norm that decides that the big clean-up has to be done at the end of the year. In some countries, the big clean-up is done in the spring. Isn’t it a bit more logical?
We don’t always have to go against the grain, but we do need to think about whether we are really deciding things for ourselves, or whether we are following what others have decided for us. Deciding for ourselves is not an easy task, but if we develop our intuition, we may know when the leaves should begin to sprout. Is it because the calendar says it should be now or is it because we’ve made up our own mind? 2025 is going to be a year where it’s easy for our values to be shaken, so let us make sure we’re properly grounded and act accordingly.
