Full Moon in Cancer February 1/2, 2026

The next Full Moon happens on February 1, 2026 at 10:10 pm (UTC) at 18 degrees 50 minutes of Cancer. Nakshatra is Ashlesha, and Navamsha is Sagittarius.

It coincides with the Thaipusam Festival, mainly celebrated in Tamil Nadu, and celebrates the victory of Lord Murugan (deity connected to the planet Mars) over the demon Surapadman. The battle ensued, and Surapadman was slain by Murugan, who turned him into a peacock and a cock. The cock is depicted on Murugan’s standard, and the peacock became his mount.

Demons can represent the negative tendencies within us, which we need to understand and defeat. We all have some negativity we want to get rid of, and this is why we are reborn. Once we succeed in overcoming those negativities, as the demon became the god’s mount, we can turn them into something positive. Jyotish teaches that many things can depend on our viewpoint. Om Shanti.
